Beams, beams, beams.

This week, there's been even more visible progress on the future bakery room, meeting room and lobby area of our building at 2500 Bloomington Avenue. If you've been in our current building lately, you have probably noticed that we are bursting at the seams, and seeing this larger, more friendly space is so exciting.

It's official: we have a roof!

The roof boards are down and the 2nd floor is almost entirely walled in. They also have started to put up the walls for the kitchen. The kitchen will be many times larger than our current kitchen - nice to imagine how many meals we will be able to prepare and deliver!

Our future kitchen

One of the photos in this batch is of all of the conduit that is running in the kitchen floor. It will all be completely covered with concrete within a week, but it provides the path for electricity and cabling for all of our appliances. They are starting to work on the roof joists this week, as well.

THANK YOU to all of the extra drivers and kitchen volunteers who helped us do all of the extra work that's required to deliver meals on a holiday week. We were able to enjoy Labor Day, and still bring nutritious meals to everyone on our list! We couldn't do it without all of your support.

Really fantastic...

Today, we came across some photos from 1997 and 1998. We were still in the church basement in Dinkytown, and making due with the borrowed space. And we also have pictures of our early days at 1414 Franklin Avenue, with Bill Rowe, our founder, cutting the ribbon on this, the first place that was "our own". But I can't wait until 10 years from now, when we look out our doors from 2500 Bloomington Avenue and think about how far we've come, and how much more we can still do to provide great food for those who are living with illness in our community.

Today's Construction Photos

Last week, I was able to walk into our new basement for the very first time. It was an amazing feeling. And this week, they are starting to put up some of the wood structure on the second floor. More photos tomorrow...
